A Young Neighborhood on Old Ground
Lowry Air Force Base opened in 1937, ended flight operations in 1966, and closed in 1994. The roughly 1,866 acre site was redeveloped from the late 1990s through 2009, so most Lowry homes date from after 1995 and have PVC sewer laterals.
Two pieces of the base's history matter underground. The former landfill zone, used from about 1948 to 1986, is capped with low-permeability soil and carries deed restrictions on how the land can be used. Parts of the site also have TCE in groundwater, managed under site-specific state standards.
The Lowry Officers' Row and Lowry Technical Training Center historic districts, both designated in 1995, preserve some of the original base buildings, which are older than the housing around them.

Modern PVC rarely fails from age. When a Lowry line causes trouble, the usual causes are a settled section, a joint that was never seated properly, or damage from later landscaping or construction. Those are localized, so the repair usually is too.
Before we excavate, we confirm whether the property falls near the capped landfill zone or under any deed restriction. Most residential lots do not, but the check is quick and avoids problems once the trench is open.
