Trenchless sewer repair is a family of methods that restore a sewer line from small access points rather than by digging along the full length of the pipe. The work happens inside the existing pipe path, so driveways, mature trees, patios, and finished landscaping usually stay intact.

There is no single trenchless method. Lining rebuilds the inside of a pipe that still holds its shape. Bursting destroys the old pipe and pulls a new one into the same corridor. Spot repair treats one defect. The condition of your line decides which of those is possible.

Trenchless is a means, not a goal. A method that is wrong for the pipe you have will cost more and last less than a properly executed trench.

Trenchless is the right method when the line is continuous enough to host a liner or to guide a bursting head, when access points exist at both ends or can be created cheaply, and when the surface above the line is expensive or impossible to restore.

It is the wrong method when the pipe is collapsed, severely offset, or crushed flat, when grade is wrong and needs to be reset, or when the line has to be rerouted because the existing path is the problem.

We confirm this with a camera inspection and a locate, not with an estimate over the phone. A method quoted before anyone has seen inside the pipe is a guess.

Most residential trenchless projects are a one to two day job on site, with the pipe out of service for part of a single day. Two access pits are typically a few feet across rather than a trench running the length of the yard.

Cost is driven by line length, depth, diameter, pipe material, the number of access pits required, how much cleaning or reaming the host pipe needs before work starts, whether the line runs under a street or an alley that needs permitting and traffic control, and how much surface restoration follows.
