What Cured-In-Place Lining Is
A flexible felt or fiberglass liner is saturated with a two part resin, then inverted or pulled into the host pipe and inflated against the pipe wall. Heat, ambient temperature, or ultraviolet light cures the resin until it hardens into a rigid pipe that takes the shape of the original line.
Once cured, the liner is a structural pipe in its own right. It bridges cracks, seals open joints, blocks root entry points, and provides a smooth interior that improves flow even though internal diameter drops slightly.
Service connections are reinstated with a cutter after the cure, which is why lining is used on both residential laterals and larger commercial and municipal runs.

How We Diagnose It
When CIPP Lining Is the Right Method
CIPP is the right method when the host pipe is structurally continuous, holds close to round, and has correct grade. The liner follows the shape it is given, so it preserves the geometry of the line rather than correcting it.
It is a strong choice for long runs under driveways, foundations, streets, and mature trees, and for lines with many joint defects, because one liner treats the whole run rather than repairing each defect individually.
It is the wrong method when the pipe is collapsed, has a belly, has severe offsets that the liner would simply reproduce, or has lost so much wall that there is nothing to line against. Diameter loss also rules it out on lines already running at capacity.

- Bellies and back-pitch, which a liner preserves rather than fixes.
- Offsets larger than the liner can bridge.
- Missing pipe wall leaving nothing to line against.

Inspect and Measure
Camera inspection confirms the host pipe is a lining candidate and establishes exact length, diameter, and the location of every service connection.

Clean and Ream
Jetting, cutting, and reaming remove roots, grease, and scale. A liner installed over debris fails, so preparation is not optional.

Saturate and Install
The liner is wet out with resin and inverted or pulled into place, then inflated tight against the host pipe wall.

Cure, Reinstate, Verify
The resin is cured, service connections are cut back open, and a final camera pass documents the finished pipe before the line returns to service.

Disruption, Timeline, and Cost Drivers
Most residential liners are installed and cured within a single day, with the line out of service for several hours during cleaning, installation, and cure. Excavation is often limited to nothing at all when an existing cleanout can be used.
Cost drivers are run length, pipe diameter, how much cleaning and reaming the host pipe needs, cure method, the number of service connections to reinstate, access difficulty, and whether a cleanout has to be installed to get a launch point.
Lining is usually the lowest cost trenchless option per foot on a long run, but only where the host pipe qualifies. Preparing an unqualified pipe until it accepts a liner is how a lining project turns expensive.
