# Trenchless Septic Line Repair for Denver Area Properties

Trenchless septic repair rehabilitates the line running between a building and a septic tank from access pits at each end, rather than by opening a trench along its whole length. It applies to the line, not to the tank or the drainfield, and it works where the host pipe still holds its shape and its grade.

- Applies to the building to tank line.
- Access pits instead of a full length trench.
- Camera assessment decides suitability.
- Preserves mature landscaping and hard surfaces.
- Excavation offered honestly where trenchless will not work.

## Which Septic Problems Can Trenchless Methods Solve?

The line between the building and the tank fails the same way a municipal lateral does: root intrusion at joints, cracking, corrosion in cast iron, and deformation in older materials. Where the pipe is still round and still running downhill, a cured-in-place liner seals the joints and the cracks and gives the run a continuous new interior.

Where the pipe has failed more comprehensively but the path is still correct, pipe bursting pulls a new line along the same route while breaking the old one outward. That handles material that is too far gone to line, without trenching the length of the run.

- Root intrusion at joints along the building to tank run.
- Cracked or corroded pipe that still holds its shape.
- Long runs crossing mature landscaping or hard surfaces.
- Material replacement where the existing grade is sound.

## When Trenchless Is Not the Right Answer

Trenchless methods follow the existing path. That is their strength and their limitation. A line with a belly is holding water because the grade is wrong, and lining a bellied pipe produces a lined pipe with the same belly. Correcting grade means opening the trench and re-laying to slope.

Similarly, a collapsed section leaves the liner nothing to cure against, and a run that needs to be re-routed by definition cannot follow the old path. In each of those cases excavation is the honest answer, and we would rather say so before the work than during it.

- The line has a belly and grade has to be corrected.
- A section has collapsed or is missing.
- The route needs to change.
- The tank connection itself is what has failed.

## How Trenchless Septic Line Repair Runs

1. **Camera and measure** Full camera run establishing material, condition, grade, and defect positions. This is the step that decides whether trenchless is appropriate at all.
2. **Clean the host pipe** The line is cleaned back to bare pipe wall. A liner cured over root mass or scale is a liner that fails.
3. **Line or burst** Cured-in-place liner where the host pipe holds shape, or pipe bursting where the material has to be replaced along the same path.
4. **Verify and reinstate** Post-work camera run, then the two access pits backfilled and the surface restored.

## How Trenchless Compares on Cost

Per foot, trenchless work is not automatically cheaper than open cut. What changes the arithmetic is restoration. Two access pits against a hundred feet of trench across mature turf, a driveway, or an irrigation system is where the saving lives.

On a short, shallow run in open ground with nothing above it, open cut is often the sensible and cheaper choice, and we will say so rather than selling the method with the better brochure.

## Frequently asked questions

**Can you line the septic tank or the drainfield?**

No. Trenchless methods apply to pipe runs. A tank is a structure and a drainfield is a distributed soil treatment area, and neither is rehabilitated by lining. Those components have their own repair and replacement paths.

**How do you know if my line can be lined?**

The camera decides it. We are looking for a pipe that still holds a round cross section and still runs downhill continuously. Shape and grade are the two criteria, and both are visible on the run.

**Does lining reduce the pipe diameter?**

Slightly, and on a properly cleaned host pipe the smoother interior generally offsets it in flow terms. Where the existing line is already undersized for the building, lining is not the right approach and replacement is.

**How long before I can use the line again?**

Typically the same day for a cured liner, depending on the cure method and length. We give you a specific time on the job rather than a general figure, because it varies with the material and the conditions.

**Are you Denver Water or the city?**

No. Denver Sewer and Water is a private, family owned and operated company. We are not Denver Water or the City and County of Denver. A septic system is privately owned infrastructure, and we are the contractor a property owner hires to work on one.
