## What Hydro Jetting and Descaling Do

A hose is fed into the line and a nozzle directs water rearward at high pressure. The jets pull the hose forward while scouring the pipe wall and flushing the debris back toward the access point. Unlike a cable, which bores a channel through a blockage, jetting removes the material.

Descaling adds a mechanical element: chain knockers or specialized cutting heads spun inside the pipe to break rust nodules and mineral scale off cast iron walls, followed by a jetting pass to flush the debris out.

The distinction matters for recurring clogs. A cable restores flow today. Jetting removes the buildup that would have caused the next clog.

It is the wrong method when the camera shows cracked, corroded, or otherwise fragile pipe. Pressure applied to a compromised pipe can turn a leak into a break, so we inspect before jetting rather than after.

3. **Clean the Full Run** The hose is worked through the line so the pipe wall is scoured end to end rather than only at the blockage.
4. **Re-Camera and Advise** A second camera pass documents the cleaned pipe and shows whether an underlying defect was hiding behind the buildup.

Most residential jetting is a two to four hour visit with no excavation. Commercial descaling on long or heavily scaled runs can take a full day.
