# Sewer Line Repair or Replace: How to Decide

Repair when the defect is isolated, the material has life left, and the line holds shape and grade. Replace when the material is at end of life, the defects run the length of the pipe, or the line has lost its grade.

## The Decision in Plain Terms

Three questions settle most cases. What is the pipe made of and how old is it. How many defects are there and how far apart. Does the line still hold its round shape and its downhill fall.

If the answers are sound material, one or two defects, good shape and grade, then repair is the right call and it will hold. If any one of those fails badly, repair money is being spent on a line that will need replacing anyway.

Symptoms alone do not decide anything. A single backup can come from a fixable root intrusion or from a collapsing fiber line. The camera separates them.
