## How Deep Sewer Lines Run and How Depth Is Found

A sewer lateral leaves the building below the foundation and falls continuously toward the main. In the Denver metro that usually means three to five feet at the house and six to twelve feet or more where it ties into a street main.

Depth is measured by putting a transmitting sonde in the camera head and tracking it from the surface with a locator. The locator reads both the horizontal position of the line and its depth at that point.

Marking the path on the surface is what makes an accurate repair plan possible. Without it, access points, trench length, and restoration scope are all estimates.
