## Frequently asked questions

**Is Denver Sewer and Water the same as Denver Water or the city?**

No. Denver Sewer and Water is a private, family owned and operated company. We are not Denver Water or the City and County of Denver. We are a licensed and insured underground line contractor hired directly by property owners. We cannot take payments on a municipal water bill or manage a city utility account.

**Should a sewer line be repaired or replaced?**

It depends on the condition of the pipe. A single break, an isolated root intrusion, or one bad section can often be repaired. Widespread cracking, collapse, repeated backups, or a line that has lost grade along its length usually points to replacement. We camera the line first and base the recommendation on what the footage shows, not on a guess from the surface.

**What is the difference between trenchless and open cut work?**

Trenchless work rehabilitates or replaces a line through access points rather than excavating the full run, which preserves more of the yard, driveway, and landscaping. Open cut excavation exposes the pipe directly and is the right call for collapsed sections, severe offsets, grade problems, and access or code conditions that trenchless cannot solve. Trenchless if possible, excavation if necessary.

**Who is responsible for the sewer line from the house to the city main?**

In most Denver metro situations the property owner is responsible for the service line running from the building to the connection at the public main, including the portion under the yard and often under the street. The municipality is responsible for the main itself. Responsibility can vary by jurisdiction, so confirm with your local authority before work begins.

**How do sewer and water taps and permits work?**

A tap is the physical connection between a private service line and the public main. Tap work is permitted and inspected by the local jurisdiction, and the fees, requirements, and inspection steps are set by that jurisdiction rather than by us. We handle the excavation and the connection work and coordinate with the permitting authority on the required approvals.

**Do you work on more than sewer lines?**
